Robert H. Benton, PE, Founder
Bob Benton is the founder of Benton & Associates, Inc. Bob holds more than 40 years of experience in environmental work. Starting out as a draftsman/engineering technician in 1956, he worked his way through the professional ranks and school earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Illinois in 1963.
Since that time, Bob has served as the water superintendent for a a large water system as well as Principal-In-Charge, Design Engineer, Project Manager, and construction Observer. He holds a Professional Engineer license in Illinois. He is also a member and past President of Illinois Society of Professional Engineers as well as being a member and former National Director of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Reginald H. Benton PE, SE, President
Reggie Benton has more than 28 years of experience in Civil Engineering, working for Hanson Engineers, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and Farnsworth & Wylie before coming to work for Benton & Associates, Inc.
As one of the Principals of the firm, he has the ultimate responsibility for the quality, schedule and budget for a wide variety of projects. Reg is also the senior structural engineer for the firm. He has designed pumping stations, box culverts, highway bridges, and conducted planning studies including major river crossings over the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers with spans exceeding 500'.
Reggie is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and Missouri, a licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois as well as a certified swimming pool operator.
Jamie L. Headen, PE, Vice-President
Jamie Headen has been an integral member of Benton & Associates, Inc. for over 25 years. His experience has included project manager, estimator, construction observer, draftsman, and survey crew technician. He is also involved with client relations, firm management strategic planning and leadership.
Jamie provides professional services to B&A clients during all phases of infrastructure projects, from beginning feasibility studies, through construction/operation of water system distribution and treatment improvements. He also has extensive involvement in wastewater collection and treatment projects.
Jamie is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, an Illinois Class "C" Public Water Supply Operator, Class "4" Sewer Operator, and a Certified Illinois Swimming Pool Operator. He is a member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Central Illinois Potable Water Operators Association and the American Water Works Association.
William J. Sleeman, PE, Secretary
Bill Sleeman has more than 20 years experience in the Civil Engineering field. His project have ranged from Phase I and Phase II for the Illinois Department of Transportation, to subdivision layout and design from 20 to 400 lots. He has also worked on project reports, drainage studies, hydraulic reports, contract plans, easement drawings and descriptions, and various storm water collection systems.
As a Principal and Project Engineer/Manager, Bill has had ultimate responsibility for the quality of work schedule and budget for a wide range of projects.
Bill holds the title of licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, Missouri, and New Jersey. He is a current member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers as well as the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Adam Dorrell, PE
Adam Dorrell is the Office Manager for the Kirksville and Macon Missouri branch offices and has over 20 years of experience in civil and environmental work.
He has served as project manager on multiple projects including recent projects for the City of Kirksville, Adair Co. PWSD#1, Queen City, Brashear, Unionville, Downing and Macon, Missouri. Mr. Dorrell also has experience in design and permitting of water and wastewater system projects, securing project funding from multiple sources, as well as design of streets and drainage projects.
Adam's experience includes the design and preparation of plans, specifications, and reports on various water distribution projects, evaluating scope of work, job cost estimating, field conditions, and alignments. Bidding and construction phase responsibilities include field review of bidding documents, submittal of bid documents to various state agencies for approval, shop drawing review, field observation, field testing, pay request review and processing, and project close-out.
Adam holds the title of licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri and Illinois. He is a ACI Level 1 Concrete Inspector and holds certifications in Nuclear Density, Concrete Field and Concrete Strength, and is a MoDot Technician.
Douglas J. Erickson, PE
Doug Erickson is the Office Manager for B&A's Macomb, Illinois branch office and has over 15 years of experience in civil engineering and construction management.
Doug has been involved in facility planning, design, and construction administration on of a variety of municipal projects. He also specializes in the evaluation of project costs, schedules, controls, and project management issues related to new construction, construction project disputes, and remediation construction. Engineering work has spanned a variety of sectors including water/wastewater infrastructure, roadways and streetscapes, transportation/transit facilities, educational facilities, stadiums, industrial process plants, residential housing, commercial properties, and research laboratories.
Doug holds the title of licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and Iowa. His certifications include IDOT-Documentation of Contract Quantities, Nuclear Gauge Safety, Hazmat Certification, NASSCO PACP/LACP/MACP, and ENVISION Sustainability Professional. Doug also holds a BS in Engineering Physics from Illinois College, BS in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a MS in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
Matt Hardy, SE, PE
Matt has over 14 years of experience as a project engineer in structural/civil engineering. He has served as a design engineer on many structural projects. These projects have included highway bridges, county bridges, new building, building renovation, and miscellaneous structures.
Matt holds the title of licensed Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer in Illinois.
Benjamin Spreen, PE
Ben has over 10 years of experience in civil engineering design, environmental engineering and construction observation.
Ben has completed design of water treatment plants, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water mains, computer animated hydraulic modeling, IDNR/IEPA/IHPA permitting for water and sanitary sewer; and NPDES for construction site activities. He has also served as the resident project representative for multiple water and sewer system projects.
Ben has been involved with water treatment plant, water distribution systems, rural water system designs, and water collection along with State agency permitting, observing water main upgrade and meter projects including the use of the GIS system. He regularly works with EPA/SRF and USDA-RD funding agencies on multiple projects.
Ben holds the title of licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, Illinois Swimming Facility Professional Engineer, and is a Class B Water Supply Operator.
Kenneth E. Sturgeon, PLS
Kenny is the Surveying Manager with over 30 years of experience in land surveying and construction observation.
Kenny has served as surveying crew chief, project manager, and construction observer on numerous land survey and civil engineering projects. His background includes street, road, and bridge construction surveys and stake out; surveys for utilities, mapping and construction; all aspects of subdivision construction, including layout and stake out; topographic surveys for detailed horizontal and vertical mapping; right-of-way and easement surveys for alignment control and acquisition; and utility surveys. Use GPS equipment and Robotic Total Station for boundary surveys and topographic surveys.
Kenny has working knowledge with standard surveying practices for boundary, topographic and utility surveys and with ASCE 38-“Standard Guidelines for Collection and Depiction of Existing Subservice Utility Data”. He has been trained to designate and mark subsurface utilities. Kenny's experience as a PLS also allows him to survey utilities for the preparation of topographic maps. His experience with subsurface utility designating and marking covers all project types at B&A. Additional experience includes utility map interpretation using electronic designating equipment and assisting with actual field verification (horizontal and vertical) of utilities. Kenny also reviews completed topographic maps for accuracy and completeness.
Kenny holds the title of Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois and Missouri.
